(WBAP/KLIF) — Dallas Area Rapid Transit is celebrating 40 years of serving residents of North Texas.
The transit system was voted into existence on August 13th, 1983, with just bus service. 40 years later, DART’s Gordon Shattles says that service has expanded to include bus service to 13 cities, 93 miles of light rail, Go-Link paratransit, and commuter rail to almost 43 million passengers each year.
Shattles says DART is hosting 12 block party events over the next five months to commemorate its 40th anniversary throughout DFW, and all residents are invited to attend. The first block party is Saturday, August 12th, at the Dallas College Northlake campus in Irving from 10am to 2pm. For a list of DART events, click here!
