(WBAP/KLIF) — When Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare ran for office, he made a pledge to cut unnecessary spending. That promise is closer to reality as the Commissioner’s Court is reviewing the proposed 2024 fiscal year budget.
Many large Texas counties increase spending and hire more staff, year in and year out. however, the state’s third largest county has a different approach. The Tarrant County Commissioners Court is proposing an $8-million cut in the overall budget, while maintaining a workforce that’s thousands less than other counties. The proposed budget is set around $896-million and includes a 3% pay raise for county employees.
The county is in the midst of public hearings regarding the proposed 2024 fiscal year budget. The 2023 budget was just shy of $904-million, while 2024 is expected to run close to $896-million.
