(WBAP/KLIF) — A power plant primarily fueled by renewable wind energy broke ground at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and is expected to come online in mid 2025.
The $234-million electric Central Utility Plant (eCUP) will substantially decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the plant’s water usage by 29%. DFW Airport CEO Sean Donahue says the new plant that will provide sustainable powered heating and cooling capacity and support the growth of the airport. Donahue also says the addition of a fully electric utility plant is a major component of achieving net-zero carbon emissions from airport operations by 2030.
The eCUP that will be primarily fueled by electricity purchased from renewable sources and will ensure that the airport’s growth is environmentally responsible and resilient. more than $116 million of the project’s funding has been provided by Federal sources. the electric plant will create more than 1,400 jobs..
The new plant is expected to fuel expansion plans at DFW, which include a new sixth terminal and the reconstruction of Terminal C.
