MCKINNEY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – McKinney Police said 15-year-old Landon Bourque was fatally hit near Roach Middle School in Frisco ISD.

It happened just before 5:30 Wednesday morning as the teen was riding his bicycle in a marked school crossing at Independence Parkway and George Washington Drive.

The driver stopped and rendered aid but the victim did not survive. No word on if any charges will be filed.

The tragedy is prompting police to remind drivers and students to be extra cautious during school drop offs and pick ups.

“Watching those speed limits. Not being on your phone. Watching for pedestrians at crosswalks and off course never passing a school bus that has flashing lights and signs out,” said McKinney Police Public Information Officer Carla Marion Reeves.

She’s asking parents to have a serious conversation with their students about the importance of remaining alert.

“Teach your children to not walk around looking at their phones primarily. If their eyes are up and looking around, they will see if a threat is coming if a vehicle is approaching and have more time to react,” said Marion Reeves.

The investigation is ongoing and the department said their “hearts go out to everyone involved in this tragedy.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family to help pay for funeral expenses.
