AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott, on Monday, will ceremonially sign the Save Women’s Sports Act passed during the 88th Regular Legislative Session at the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in Denton.

The bill bans transgender college athletes from competing on teams or in sports that don’t align with their sex at birth. The Governor has said the legislation is meant to protect women’s collegiate sports.

Governor Abbott will be joined by former NCAA athletes and spokeswomen for Independent Women’s Voice Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan, members of the Texas Legislature, female athletes, and other women’s sports advocates.

In 2021, Governor Abbott signed a similar law to protect girls’ sports in Texas public schools.

Gaines will join the WBAP Morning News LIVE at 8:17 a.m. Monday.
