Frisco Police Department Admits Wrongdoing in High-Risk Traffic Stop

FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF) – Frisco Police say they made a mistake when they stopped a car on the Dallas North Tollway Sunday morning and forced a mother and her son out of their vehicle.

In a written statement Police Chief David Shilson says one of his officers put the incorrect license plate number into the system, leading them to believe the vehicle was stolen.

Demetria Heard said in a video posted to social media that because of the mistake she was held at gunpoint and her son, who was in the metroplex for a basketball tournament, was handcuffed.

Shilson says he has reached out to the heard family and apologized. He added “Our department will not hide from its mistakes. Instead, we will learn from them. The officer involved quickly accepted responsibility for what happened, which speaks to integrity.
