(WBAP/KLIF) — TXU Energy and Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County are busy helping seniors citizens with their Beat the Heat program.
According to Phillip Gonzalez with Meals on Wheels, they’ve been teaming up with TXU Energy to help thousands of residents stay safe and cool for 25 years by providing $7,500 annually to cool homes during the North Texas summer.
75-year-old Sandi Young shares how she feels very grateful about receiving a brand new window air conditioner, since she was forced to leave her home due to the unbearable 110 degree heat. Young’s air conditioner broke down and she couldn’t afford a replacement, but was able to return home after the installation of the Beat the Heat air conditioner. The program provides AC units, fans, and other cooling devices for Tarrant County’s most vulnerable population. Gonzalez says they not only installed Young’s AC unit, but have already done many others this summer.
TXU Energy partners with organizations to help Texans stay cool and to promote heat safety awareness.
