Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Inspector General’s office opened an investigation into allegations of abusive treatment of migrants trying to cross the southern border.

The move comes amid allegations by a Texas state trooper of “inhumane” treatment that he says left migrants bloodied from razor-wire barriers. Trooper Nicholas Wingate also alleges that orders were given as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star to deny people water in sweltering heat.

In reaction, LULAC President Domingto Garcia told WFAA-TV that the allegations are “unforgivable and cruel.”

Meantime, Travis Considine, a spokesperson for the Texas DPS said the accounts provided by the trooper were under internal investigation and that there is no directive or policy that instructs troopers to withhold water from migrants or push them back into the river.
