Funeral of Former Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle Held Wednesday

(WBAP/KLIF) — A North Texas law enforcement legend is laid to rest.

The funeral service for former Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle took place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas. Family, Friends, and law enforcement officers from across Texas gathered to pay their final respects to Kunkle, who lost his battle with Lewy Body Dementia on July 14th. Aside from citations from his stellar career, retired Grand Prairie Police Chief Steven Dye talked about lighter moments with his friend while running and working out at Arlington PD with future Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. The funeral service in Dallas included Kunkle’s final call at the end of his watch, as he served as police chief in Dallas, Arlington, and Grand Prairie. During his time as Dallas Police Chief, he was responsible for more than a 30% decrease in homicides and violent crime.

Kunkle grew up in Hurst and graduated from L.D. Bell High School. He leaves behind his wife Sarah Dodd and son, Michael.
