Houston (WBAP/KLIF) – A hometown airline will be a huge beneficiary of a proposed expansion at a Southeast Texas airport.

A planned $450M expansion at Houston Hobby’s west concourse would add seven new gates, with six of them designated for Dallas-based Southwest Airlines.

While work to be done to finalize the plan and to get the required design and environmental reviews, Southwest spokesman Dan Landson of told the Dallas Morning News in part, “We’re glad to underscore this is the direction we are heading for Hobby.”

It’s hopeful that construction will begin next year with the new gates slated to be fully operational by 2026. The proposal also includes new baggage carousels, a new baggage handling system, and upgraded bathrooms.
