FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A Fort Worth non-profit that provides free food to thousands of residents in need said someone stole from one of their locations.
“Funky Town Fridge” founder Kendra Richardson said thieves took one of their five refrigerators that are stuffed with nutritious foods for people to come and take as needed.
“The food is already free, it’s already available…so for somebody to take a fridge is kind of like crazy because they’re taking food from people’s mouths. There’s elderly people around there, there’s kids around there, there’s a halfway house around there. So, it’s pretty bad,” she said.
The non-profit’s first brand-new fridge was stolen from Village Creek Road and Berry Street in east Fort Worth last Thursday or Friday.
Although someone donated another refrigerator, Richardson asked the thieves who stole the new one to bring it back.
“I know times are hard. I know people need money. To take away something that’s a community resource for everybody…even if they were to take all the food…that wouldn’t have been an issue…but to take the number one source is disheartening. So please…all I ask is that you bring it back,” she said.
Richardson said the level of need in their service area continues to grow and the non-profit is in need of monetary resources to help keep up with demand.
