FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Fort Worth Police Department revealed details about a deadly officer-involved shooting early Wednesday morning.
Chief Neal Noakes said two officers, one an arson investigator, were responding to a call about illegal fireworks just after midnight.
When they drove past Ross Avenue and Northwest 32nd street, they saw a group of armed individuals engaged in an “active altercation.”
The officers engaged two men and a gun battled ensued. The two suspects were fatally shot by officers. One died at the scene and the other succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Chief Noakes says these situations are never easy on law enforcement.
“They’re having a rough time. Anytime an officer has to draw their weapons much less fire their weapons…it’s a traumatic event. It’s something that takes a long time to process. So, they’re shaken.”
The two unidentified officers are on administrative leave pending an investigation.
“We’re going to make sure they have all the resources they may need to be able to get through this. Obviously, they’ll be speaking with our investigators about what exactly occurred here tonight,” said Chief Noakes.
Another man and woman were found shot near the scene. No details on their involvement in the incident.
