Help Available to Pay Soaring Electric Bills

Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – Electric costs are way up with many Texans struggling to pay their bills. There are many options to get the financial assistance you need.

Among several financial assistance options for qualified low income homeowners and renters is Texas Utility Help offered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

Electric service providers also offer various assistance programs to their customers. Contact your individual service provider. Meantime Ana Lucia Soto with Reliant Energy talks up a program for non-customers that can get the ball rolling for anyone in Texas who may need help texting 211.

Criteria to qualify for the Texas Utility Help program:

Household income must be at or below 150% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines (FPIG).

At least one occupant in the household must be a U.S. citizen or qualified alien.

For water and wastewater assistance, those who have been disconnected or are at risk of having their service disconnected are prioritized.
