(WBAP/KLIF) — The North Texas homeless population is top-of-mind during the heat wave.

Many homeless shelters and faith organizations are reaching out to those living on the streets to provide water, food, and a cool place to stay. One of those is “Our Calling” in Dallas, where Ali Hendricksen says it’s a day to day operation as they check the heat index each day to see if they transition their homeless center into a cooling center.
The non-profit also provides a search and rescue team to assist those who can’t make it to the center. The search & rescue team has fielded calls and text messages to provide aid to those struggling in the heat. For the long-term, ‘Our Calling’ has ramped up efforts to find permanent housing for their homeless friends. They also provide water and snacks for those living on the streets.
