Dallas ‘Beat the Heat’ Centers Open

(WBAP/KLIF) — The Texas heat took the lives of 279 people in 2022, which has prompted local officials to initiate programs to save lives.

City of Dallas ‘Beat the Heat’ kick-off on June 27, 2023

That’s the driving force behind the ‘Beat the Heat’ program, sponsored by the City of Dallas and Reliant Energy. For the 14th year in a row, the program provides relief to area residents dealing with the blistering heat. Councilman Omar Narvaez says two ‘Beat the Heat’ centers are also open to the public: the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and the West Dallas Multi-Purpose Center.

Reliant Energy’s Phillip Fite says the company is rolling out several plans to assist residents, including the donation of 150 evaporative coolers to the most needy Dallas families. More information on the reliant energy programs is available at the company’s web site. Residents can also contact the City of Dallas for ‘Beat the Heat’ benefits.
