(WFAA)

Washington, DC (WBAP/KLIF) – According to the Washington Post, the pilot of a private plane that flew over Washington DD on Sunday was a retired Southwest Airlines captain.

The report says Jeff Hefner had over 25,000 hours of flying experience. He died along with his three passengers when the plane crashed Sunday in the western Virginia mountains.

Things began to go wrong with the flight over Long Island and it started heading for restricted airspace above the nation’s Capitol. The US military scrambled F-16 fighter jets at supersonic speeds, causing a boom in the region. Those fighter jet pilots are said to have noticed the Hofner slumped over in the plane

Investigators say their initial findings point to a medical issue or lack of oxygen in the plane’s cabin.
