AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Governor Greg Abbott has set the special election date to replace disgraced former State Representative Bryan Slaton of Royse City for November 7.
The House voted to expel Slaton earlier this month after an internal investigation found he allegedly had sex with a 19-year-old aide after getting her drunk.
Slaton, whose Twitter profile describes him as a Christian Conservative Republican, resigned on May 8 and denied the allegations in a letter to the Governor. He was expelled the next day.
Slaton’s former seat in House District 2 is heavily Republican and covers the Hunt, Hopkins and Van Zandt counties in rural Northeast Texas.
The candidate filing deadline for the special election is September 6, early voting begins October 23.
At least five candidates have already announced their intention to run for the seat.
