Senator Cornyn Holds Round Table on Ticket Scalping

(WBAP/KLIF) — For years, if fans wanted to see a highly popular sporting event or concert, they would expect to pay three to four times the original ticket price on the secondary market. U.S. Senator John Cornyn of Texas held a round table of ticket industry experts at American Airlines Center, Thursday, to help address the problem.

Cornyn says although it’s against the law for bots to purchase tickets there’s no penalty on the books and he wanted to discuss reforms to the current ticketing system for live events and performances. High ticket prices on the secondary market for sporting events and concerts have put a sour taste in the mouths of fans. The Senator heard from representative from the Cowboys, Stars, Rangers and the music industry who feel the over-priced tickets are affecting their fan base.

Cornyn is working on a bill in Washington to address the illegal practice that not only affects artists, but exploits fans. The bill would curb scalpers and bots from inflating ticket prices. One of the most publicized issues occurred during the sale of Taylor Wwift’s “Eras Tour” tickets, which crashed TicketMaster’s system, adversely affecting thousands of fans.
