White Settlement Police Searching for Suspects in Rash of Car Burglaries, Shooting

WHITE SETTLEMENT (WBAP/KLIF News ) – White Settlement police released surveillance footage of four suspects believed to be connected to the shooting of a homeowner amid a rash of car burglaries over the weekend.

Investigators said police received several calls about shots fired in the 8200 block of Sussex Street near Meadow Park Drive just south of White Settlement Road.

When officers arrived, they initially couldn’t find a victim but determined the calls were connected to reports of several car burglaries.

Detectives later found the man, who did not initially call police to report that he had been shot in the leg, likely a graze wound or ricochet.

The victim told police he was sitting in his car around 1:52 a.m. Sunday, April 30, when one of the suspects opened the door.

He was shot during a confrontation and suffered a minor injury. A second bullet hit a neighbor’s car.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The video shows four people, believed to be in their mid-teens to early twenties, attempt to break into several cars on Sussex Street.

In one of the videos, the suspect is clearly seen holding a black handgun and pointing it at other houses while lifting door handles to vehicles.

White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook said this behavior will not be tolerated.

“I am outraged by the reckless disregard for human life while committing multiple vehicle burglaries across our city streets,” said Chief of Police Christopher Cook. “These teens need to come forward and turn themselves in. I am confident that we will solve this case based upon evidence found at the scene. It is extremely sad that teens are out walking around at 2-3 a.m. carrying a handgun and burglarizing our resident’s vehicles. This case could have been much worse if the rounds had struck our victim. Officers were literally seconds away from the teens fleeing over neighbor’s fences with the gun last night.”

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
