FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF) – Frisco Police are investigating a recent uptick in jewelry thefts.

According to Frisco PD, since the beginning of March, the department has received nine reports of theft in which victims have had their jewelry removed.

“While the incidents occurred at various times during the day, all involved victims walking in open areas with visible jewelry that were approached by an unknown suspect,” said Officer Grant Cottingham. “Using conversation as a distraction method, the suspect offers a hug, or similar gesture, at which point the victim’s necklace is stolen.

Police are asking residents to be aware of their surroundings, and not to allow anyone they don’t know into personal space. The department also discourages residents from walking alone, and from wearing visible jewelry.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Frisco Police Department.
