Texans May Soon Be Saving; Buying Canadian Sourced Drugs

(AUSTIN/WFAA – WBAP/KLIF) – The latest moves by the Texas House and expected passage soon by the Texas Senate could help to drop the price of prescription medications Texans are forced to pay.

Texans pay twice what Canadians do, or even more at times. WFAA reports the Texas House has passed the Texas Wholesale Prescription Drug Importation Program, or, HB 25; that it’s author State Representative James Talarico estimates could help shave 60-70% from the high price of prescription medications.

Talarico states Texans pay the highest price for prescription medications in the world. This bill is touted as aiming to lower prices for everything from cancer-fighting medicines to Epipens.

The measure moves now into the Texas Senate, where passage is expected. If approved, the measure could take effect September 1rst of this year. Senator Charles Perry of Lubbock carries the bill in the Texas Senate.
