White Settlement, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook has authorized all police officers to wear western-style hats in performance of their duties to capture the western history of the town.

In a press release, Chief Cook said, “The City of White Settlement is rich in western heritage and culture with early pioneers making the trek to the untamed west.”

Cook told our newsroom that his officers approached him about a year ago when he first took the helm of the department his opinion on cowboy hats. He says that he tried to get it done in the Arlington Police Department where he formerly served as public information officer, “It was kind of a no-brainer here, especially with out Western heritage and culture that White Settlement was founded upon in the 1838.”

The department is thankful for the generous donations from anonymous donors and significant wholesale discounts at a local ranch wear shop and manufacturer to make this new uniform change possible. Each officer is authorized to wear straw western-style hats during the warmer season and black felt hats during the cooler weather season.

As part of the uniform standard, the department conducted research and decided on the American hat company to produce the hats. Lazy J Ranch Wear was chosen as the business location to procure the hats.

Brad Humphries, owner of Lazy J’s said in a video produced by the WSPD that he loves the idea of officers wearing cowboy hats, “I love it. It’s Fort Worth, the Fort Worth area, it’s Texas. You gotta do it.”
