Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – An Austin jury Friday found U.S. Army sergeant Daniel Perry guilty of the murder of a Black Lives Matter demonstrator during a 2022 street protest in Austin. Perry has not yet been sentenced, but Greg Abbott is already saying he’s determined to pardon him. Abbott noted in a Tweet Saturday that Texas Governors do not have the power to create pardons. They can only approve or deny recommendations from the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. However, Abbott says he can request the Board to act, and has done so. The Governor vowed he will approve a pardon for Perry as soon as it reaches his desk.
