Dallas Police Arrest 2 Suspects in Quadruple Murder

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Dallas Police Department announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with a quadruple murder Sunday night.

Investigators said officers made the gruesome discovery around 7:10 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Villaverde Avenue near the intersection of Marsh and Forest Lanes in northwest Dallas.

According to a news release, two women and two men died from gunshot wounds at the scene, and an infant in the apartment was unharmed.

18-year-old Artemio Maldonado and 20-year-old Azucena Sanchez were arrested a few hours later and are each charged with capital murder.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by our media partner WFAA TV, police were called after family members reported that the victims had not answered their phones all day.

The victim’s named have not yet been released by the medical examiner’s office. The affidavit states, Sanchez was the ex-girlfriend of one of the victims and told investigators they were engaged in a custody dispute over their child.

Investigators said security video from the apartment complex showed a vehicle matching Maldonado’s leaving the apartment around 11 a.m. Sunday. A neighbor told police he heard what he thought were gunshots around 1 a.m. but didn’t call police, according to the affidavit.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police spotted Maldonado’s vehicle on Northhaven Road and saw the two suspects walking towards the car.

The pair were taken into custody. The affidavit state’s Maldonado admitted to shooting all four victims after a confrontation.

Sanchez told police they broke into the apartment to take money, thinking no one was home and but were met with the victims, according to the affidavit.

It also states that Sanchez told investigators that she and Maldonado took an empty box from a bedroom closet thinking it had money. However, the box was empty and the two left the scene.
