DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has announced a scenario that hasn’t been seen in decades.
He confirmed via Twitter on Monday that he’s running unopposed in the upcoming May 2023 elections.
Johnson is the first person ever to run unopposed for mayor since the city switched to electing its mayor to four-year terms in 1991 and is the first person to run unopposed for mayor since Erik Jonsson in 1967.
“It is the greatest honor of my life to serve as mayor of my hometown. We have achieved significant, measurable results for the residents of Dallas over the past four years, and I look forward to continuing this incredible progress in my second term,” said Johnson in a statement.
He’s among two incumbents in City of Dallas leadership running unopposed on the ballot.
District 12 Representative Cara Mendelsohn in Far North Dallas announced via Twitter on Sunday that she too is running unopposed.
The filing period for the election ended on Friday. Write-in candidates have until February 21 to declare their bid to run.
Election Day is May 6.
