Suspect in Murder of Garland Bike Shop Employee Found Dead in Rowlett Home

GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Garland Police Department announced Thursday night that the suspect in the recent murder of an employee Don Johle’s Bike World was found dead in his home from an apparent suicide.

Officers responded to a 911 call Thursday morning from an employee who said they arrived at the store at 5513 Broadway Boulevard to open the business and found a suspicious scene.

Someone left the internal metal gates open. The doors had been locked and there was no forced entry. Investigators said when officers entered the building they found the body of 40-year-old James Kencheloe, who had been shot.

During the investigation, detectives identified 58-year-old Wesley Don-Johle as the suspect in Kencheloe’s killing.

“Through the collection of evidence…reviewing some CCTV that they found and collected. They were able to determine that there was enough probable cause for Wesley Don Johle,” said Lieutenant Richard Maldonado with Garland PD.

When members of Garland SWAT arrived at Johle’s Rowlett home to arrest him, they discovered his body inside. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A motive behind the murder is unknown at this time.

“The victim was an employee of the bike shop as was Mr. Don Johle. They knew each other…we know that. We’re trying to determine what may having taken place prior leading up to this incident,” said Lt. Maldonado.

Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
