EPA Demolishes Contaminated Site in Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began the demolition of an old electroplating facility in South Dallas on Thursday.

The Lane Plating Superfund Site is located at 5322 Bonnie View Road. Lane Plating Works, Inc., is a former electroplating facility that operated for more than 90 years. The facility conducted hard chromium and cadmium plating. The approximately five-acre property is near a residential and commercial area. According to the city, the location is one of the most contaminated sites in the country.

“We’ve conducted a number of assessments and determined that the concentrations of hazardous substances within the structure and the surrounding soil pose an imminent and substantial risk to trespassers,” EPA site coordinator Eric Delgado said.

Residents and city leaders have been concerned about the dangers of the site since the facility closed in 2015.

Once the demolition is complete, the cleaning process will begin.
