How to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in DFW

DFW (WBAP/KLIF) – Several events are taking place across Dallas-Ft. Worth to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Legislation was passed 40 years ago making this a federal holiday. Many cities held events over the weekend. A list of Monday events is below.

In Arlington a free MLK Day of Service Festival takes place at Arlington City Center Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, and the Zeb Strong Jr. MLK Day of Service is at Mission Arlington from 9 a.m. to noon. A free Youth Extravaganza at Fielder Church Metro Center closes the celebration from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Dallas will hold its annual MLK parade starting at 10 a.m. Monday. The Realizing the Dream Healthy Living Expo at Fair Park’s African American Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 38th annual MLK parade and rally kick off at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. The parade will end in Sundance Square.

In Grand Prairie the parade will kick off from city hall at 9 a.m. and end at the Dalworth Recreation Center.

Lewsiville is honoring Dr. King with a National Day of Service. Volunteers can take part in a cleanup and revitalization of Champion-Macedonia Cemetery, a historic Black cemetery founded in the 1880s. Volunteers are needed to mow and rake overgrown grass and leaves and scrub markers and headstones.
