AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – The 88th Texas Legislative Session officially opened on Tuesday inside the State Capitol building in Austin.
Ahead of Tuesday’s opening ceremonies, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced a $33 billion budget surplus.
“Since I’ve become Lt. Governor, we’ve taken the utmost care to manage our budget wisely and conservatively, said Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. “The Texas economy is red-hot. We are leading the United States forward in the global marketplace and it is clear for all to see.
Patrick said Comptroller Hegar’s Biennial Revenue Estimate is further proof of the might of the Texas economy.
Family members of returning and newly elected members were inside the House and Senate Chambers on Tuesday for the invocation and opening ceremonies.
Political experts believe that property taxes, the economy, and school choice will be among top priorities for lawmakers.
