DFW (WBAP/KLIF) – Severe weather hit North Texas Tuesday morning bringing heavy rain, tornadoes and some flooding.
Tornado Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service for Parker, Denton and Tarrant Counties as well as Tornado watches for Dallas, Tarrant, Denton and Collin Counties.
The Wise County city of Decatur was hit hard by a reported tornado, damaging at least three homes and causing at least one injury.
In Grapevine, a possible twister touched down near a Sam’s Club at 1701 W State Highway 114, causing roof damage and sending several vehicles scattered along the highway.
“There was also some damage to some surrounding business like the tire shop and there’s a car wash that got damage at the same time. At this time, we haven’t had any reports of injuries,” said Grapevine Police Captain Todd Dearing.
Residents in Palo Pinto County are assessing damage after the storm hit their community around 6:30 am.
Sheriff Brett McGuire said the area near 281 and I-20 on Live Oak Road east of 281 and south of I-20 was hit the hardest.
“There was an area down there that apparently we did have if not some really strong straight line, maybe a little bit of a touch down of a tornado. Some damage to some structures, some fences torn down trees uprooted, power lines down,” he said.
At one point, the storm was so bad DFW Airport activated a “Shelter in Place” due to a tornado warning around 8:51 a.m.. That warning was cleared about an hour later.
Both DFW International Airport and Love Field issued ground stops at the height of the storm.
Once the severe weather moves out of the area North Texas should see sunny skies with highs in the 60’s.
