ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Arlington Police Department made an arrest in a deadly hit-and-run earlier this week.
22-year-old Jose Martinez is facing several charges including suspicion of intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault, accident involving death and accident involving serious bodily injury.
Investigators said two women were using a crosswalk near East Park Row Drive and Susan Drive around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, when a driver traveling west ran a red light and mowed both of them down and didn’t stop.
The walk signal was illuminated at the time of the crash.
67-year-old Maricela Moreno was killed and the 49-year-old woman with her is expected to survive her injuries.
Detectives connected Martinez to the crime from a license plate at the scene that fell off of of his Mazda CX9. The plate was registered to a nearby home on Cloverdale Street.
When officers arrived at the address, they found the SUV with a lot of damage in the front parked outside the house.
The department said the arrest was based on the officer’s conversations with Martinez and the results of sobriety tests. Investigators believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
