Dallas Sports Commission Headed to World Cup

(WBAP/KLIF) — The World Cup in Qatar has the attention of the Dallas Sports Commission. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup beginning on Sunday, the Dallas Sports Commission has their eyes focused on hosting in 2026.

Executive Director Monica Paul says they will attend this year’s World Cup to see first-hand logistics of being a host city. The commission is lobbying to host the final and semifinal games in 2026, as well as being the hub for the International Broadcast Center. Paul will travel to Qatar in early December along with a contingency to see first-hand how logistics are run by a host city.

Paul also indicates that FIFA has yet to decide to what extent Dallas will play in the 2026 World Cup. She points out that thousands of media working from Dallas would increase international exposure, which is why they’re pushing hard to land the International Broadcast Center.

The 2026 World Cup matches will be played in 11 U.S. cities, including dallas, as well as Canada and Mexico.
