(WBAP/KLIF) — A lock down scare at UNT’s Fort Worth Campus. University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth was under lock down, Wednesday afternoon, after someone reported a person possibly carrying a rifle on campus.
UNT staff sent a social media message to students and staff warning of a potential threat of violence and instructed them to find shelter in a secure location at around 12:30 p.m. A short time later, a Fort Worth Police Department SWAT team swarmed the Interdisciplinary Research & Education Building (IREB) in search of a suspect with a possible rifle.
According to UNT CEO Ruth Roman, the two-hour ordeal ended when police located a person of interest and determined they were carrying camera equipment and were not a threat. Officials lifted the lock down and returned to normal operations at around 2:30 p.m. Roman indicated that although there was no serious threat to the campus, police worked quickly to secure the area.
