AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Pressure is mounting on the Texas Department of Public Safety surrounding its response to the elementary school massacre in Uvalde last May.
During a DPS Public Safety Commission Meeting on Thursday, DPS Director Steve McCraw distanced the agency from previous comments he made about the law enforcement response being an abject failure.
“DPS as an institution did not fail the community,” McCraw said.
Parents in attendance responded to that claim and demanded he resign. Brett Cross, who lost his son in the killings, addressed McCraw directly.
“It doesn’t seem like you’re going to do that [resign],” said Cross. “Because you keep talking in circles. Listen, you can get irritated all you want, but I lost my damn son. You’re anger isn’t going outmatch mine, man.”
It was 77 minutes before law enforcement killed the shooter. One DPS trooper has been fired and others are under investigation.
