Since 1989, October has been known as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, advocating for around 10-million victims each year. With two recent incidents, that trend seems to be worsening in North Texas. On Monday, North Richland Hills Police are describing the shooting death of a 26-year-old man as a targeted, domestic violence-related attack. The suspected killer is an ex-boyfriend of a woman the deceased man was dating.
On Tuesday, Lake Worth Police arrested 27-year-old Dewitt Guice for holding a woman hostage in a hotel room and beating her. Guice has a long history of domestic violence. National statistics show that 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been severely physically abused by an intimate partner.
