5 Killed, 1 in Custody Following Domestic Dispute in Central Texas

MCGREGOR (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Texas Department of Public Safety said five people were fatally shot in a shocking familial domestic dispute in McGregor, about twenty miles southwest of Waco.

The tragedy happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 900 block of Monroe.

An unidentified man killed his wife and her two children along with two neighbors.

Mcgregor Mayor Jmmy Hering told KWTX 10 TV that when officers arrived on the scene they were confronted by an armed man who began shooting at them.

A gun battled ensued but police eventually captured the suspect alive. The man was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

During a press conference, Texas DPS Sergeant Ryan Howard said a dark cloud of sadness is hovering over those who knew the victims.

“Of course we want the successful healing of the community, this is tragic news to have to give out,” he said.

A GoFundMe account has identified two of the victims as Lorie and Natalie Aviles. Police have not officially revealed the identities of the victims.

An investigation into what sparked the tragedy is ongoing.
