Flooding Prompts Disaster Declaration in Tarrant County

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – On Tuesday, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley signed a declaration of local disaster following torrential rainfall and flooding on August 22.

According to the County Judge, DFW Airport received 9.19 inches of rainfall in a 24-hour period, the second highest official 24-hour precipitation total recorded in North Texas.

The local disaster declaration will be in effect for seven days unless it is extended by the Commissioners Court and is intended to assist in disaster recovery.

By declaring a local disaster, it opens the path for possible financial assistance from state and federal sources.

Tarrant County residents who have sustained damage due to the recent severe storms, are asked to fil out an damage assessment HERE.

Judge Whitley noted that reporting damages to Emergency Management is not a substitute for reporting damage to an insurance agent, and does not guarantee disaster relief assistance.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins declared a local disaster on Monday.
