Grass Fires Erupt In North And South Texas

DeSoto (WBAP/KLIF) – A fast moving grass fire on the western edge of DeSoto scorched about 250 acres before it was brought under control Sunday afternoon. The wind driven blaze was moving west toward homes in neighboring Cedar Hill for a while, and many residents evacuated, but in the end DeSoto firefighters managed to bring it under control before it reached those homes. The fire is believed to have started in the middle of a field, and its cause is under investigation.

Houston (WBAP/KLIF) – A fireworks show sponsored by a church in southeast Texas sparked a 3 acre grass fire Friday night. The fire near near Second Baptist Church’s Cypress Campus north of Houston was brought under control quickly because firefighters were on standby, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s office. no one was hurt.
