DENTON COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – TX-DOT is holding an in-person public meeting in Denton County on Thursday, June 29, to discuss changes to a rural roadway that is becoming increasingly congested.
The plan is to widen FM 2931 near Lakeview Park (north and south), owned by the Town of Providence Village, from a two lane to a four-lane roadway from US 380 to FM 428.
According to TX-DOT, no ROW acquisition would occur from within the fenced areas, no landscaping, trees or amenities will be affected by the proposed project.
TX-DOT Dallas District Spokeswoman Kendall Kirkham Sloane said the project is necessary to accommodate the population boom.
“More people are continuing to flock to DFW and so many of them are going to Denton County. As new developments continue to pop up and sprout along this project corridor those traffic volumes are going to continue to increase,” she said.
In addition to the widening of the road, the proposal includes new safety features.
“That raised median is really going to be a nice safety feature. It would provide left turn bays at major intersections for drivers to be able to safely turn instead of just stopping right in the middle of a travel lane,” she said.
There will also be a 10 foot shared path on both sides of the roadway with plan to eventually widen the thoroughfare to six lanes.
The meeting is at Monaco Elementary School’s cafeteria in Aubrey at 9350 Cape Cod Boulevard from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Kirkham Sloane encourages all residents to attend.
“View the proposed roadway designs. Learn more about the engineering aspects…the environmental reviews…and the construction timeline,” she said.
