Texas Department Of Criminal Justice Release New Photos of Escaped Inmate

LEON COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The search for a convicted murderer who escaped custody in Leon County last week continues and authorities are releasing more information about his escape and new photos.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice said 46-year-old Gonzalo Lopez escaped from a transport bus that was taking him from Alfred Hughes Unit outside of Gatesville to a medical appointment.

The department said on May 12, he freed himself from his hand and leg restraints, cut through the metal of the cage, crawled out through the bottom and allegedly stabbed the driver of the bus.

Since then, Lopez has managed to evade authorities in a manhunt that has grown in size.

Authorities said so many prison guards have been called to help find Lopez that inmate visitation has been canceled at prisons across Texas.

There’s currently a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Lopez is considered armed and dangerous.

Law enforcement agencies are urging residents not to approach Lopez and call 911 if they see him.
