NORTH TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Texas A&M Forest Service placed numerous North Texas counties under some level of increased risk for wildfires this week.
Denton, Tarrant, Johnson, Ellis and western Dallas counties are under very high risk of wildfires on Wednesday. Parker, Hood, Sommervell and Palo Pinto counties are under extreme danger the rest of the week.
The Forest Service’s Adam Turner said residents need to be mindful.
“They should pay attention to what’s burning. If they’re driving trailers somewhere they need to pay attention to whether there are any chains dragging behind the vehicle. Anything that can cause a spark will likely cause a grassfire. So, even though there may or may not be a burn ban on being careful with fire is incredibly important right now,” he said.
There are currently four large wildfires raging in Taylor County, about 130 miles west of Fort Worth.
It’s a situation that many large and small fire departments are watching closely, just a few months after they worked a spate of massive wildfires across Texas.
