DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A deadly shooting during a weekend trail ride and concert in Southern Dallas is bringing attention to city and police department policy.
One person was killed and 16 wounded in the shooting.
According to Dallas Police, Officers were working security at the event before the shooting, but it was later revealed organizers didn’t have a permit.
Police Chief Eddie Garcia is urging the city to tweak policy and ordinances surrounding permits.
“We need to make sure that if there are promoters promoting events there is a strong background process on promoters,” Chief Garcia insisted.
DPD has already made a change. Officers are no longer allowed to work events that don’t have a required permit.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said he has met with the Chief about his concerns.
“I am pleased with his swift action on this policy,” Mayor Johnson said. “We are also going to look at ways to strengthen our regulations, policies, and ordinances related to establishments and promoters.”
The Mayor said public safety remains the city’s top priority.
