DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- 10 year old “DJ” Daniel has terminal brain and spine cancer. He’s always dreamt of being a police officer and his goal is to be sworn in to as many agencies as he can. The Dallas Police Department marked 300 this week.
His father, Theodis Daniel, who’s also a veteran, says the impact of the men and women in uniform has left a great impression on DJ. “He said he’s going to continue until he gas runs out,” said Daniel. “As you can see with the sacrifices you made, this is what we want to do…we want to create someone that’s better than ourselves, that changes the world. Who would have thought a 10-year-old would do this? First impressions are everything,” he said.
DJ wants to bring awareness to childhood cancer and to honor the legacy of a 7-year-old girl who, just like him, dreamt of working in law enforcement. He has garnered support from agencies across the country.
Dallas Police Deputy chief Al Martinez spoke about his loving personality and adorable nature as he stood alongside him.
“We as police officers recognize that we have courage but we also have to have hearts…we have to care, because people aren’t going to care what we know until they know that we care. You are an inspiration to us and you are showing us a better way to live and to live to the fullest,” said Martinez.
DJ finally took the oath in his own custom DPD uniform, not only does he act the part but he looked the part as well. DJ is now an honorary member of the Dallas Police Department and the City of Dallas even designated March 11 as “DJ Daniel Day”, a day he’ll never forget.
