Former Baylor University-WNBA Star Brittney Griner Arrested in Russia

ASSOCIATED PRESS – WNBA star Brittney Griner is reported detained by Russian officials, with allegations vapes with hashish oil were found in her luggage by a drug sniffing dog. Griner is reported to have been playing for a Russian women’s basketball team, and is reported to have been arrested in a Moscow-area airport after vape cartridges were allegedly discovered.

The Russian Federal Customs Service on Saturday is reported to have released video of a person who appears to be the 6 foot 9 Griner going through airport security, but it does not report the date of the arrest.

ESPN reports: “The State Department issued a “do not travel” advisory for Russia on Jan. 23 that warned Americans against traveling to Russia because of “the potential for harassment against U.S. citizens, the embassy’s limited ability to assist U.S. citizens in Russia, COVID-19 and related entry restrictions, terrorism, harassment by Russian government security officials, and the arbitrary enforcement of local law. Another “do not travel” advisory was issued Saturday, nine days after Russia began its military invasion of Ukraine.”

Griner’s agent is working with attorneys in Russia and stating they are concerned for the basketball player’s welfare.
