Rio Vista ISD Cancel Classes Due to Staffing Shortage Caused by COVID-19

RIO VISTA (WBAP/KLIF News) – Rio Vista Independent School District canceled classes Monday and Tuesday due to a staffing shortage caused by COVID-19.

In a letter to parents, the district said the testing results and a lack of substitute teachers needed to cover COVID-19 positive staff members who will need to be out led to the decision to temporarily close.

According to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard, 30 of its 136 employees, about 22% of staff, tested positive for the virus.

The district said parents who want to pick up a lunch for their child on Monday or Tuesday can email Sherry Cochran at [email protected].

There will be a testing site set up at the middle school Tuesday, January 11, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. for students and staff.

A crew will deep clean all the campuses over the next two days. Masks will be available for those who would like to wear them on campus.

Rio Vista is located in Johnson County, about eight miles south of Cleburne.
