Cooke County, Texas – (WBAP/KLIF) – One of the dozens of North Texans arrested for assaulting police officers during the U.S. Capitol riot last year, now has his eyes on Texas House District 68. Mark Middleton of Cooke County and his wife face several charges.
Middleton and his wife posted videos to social media detailing their moves on that fateful day.
During an interview with our media partner WFAA, Middleton admitted to yelling “F-you” to an officer and says the he regrets it and has “prayed about it.”
The FBI arrest affidavit also mentions that Middleton made a now-deleted Facebook video where he said, “We are on the front lines. We helped push down the barriers.”
Middleton now says that if he could do anything differently, he would not have posted to social media.
As the native Texas now vies for a seat in the Texas legislature, the elephant in the room is that he and his wife could go to jail.
Middleton says that he’s “confident that neither he nor his wife will go to jail,” so he’s not really concerned about that.
Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani disagrees, telling WFAA, “The substantive cases agianst the folks that entered the Capitol Building, those are a slam dunk.”

On his website Middleton calls himself a patriot, and he advocates for Texas seceding from the U.S. He says that his reason for going to the Capitol is because he does not believe that Joe Biden won the 20202 election.
Middleton and his wife were arrested last April.
