COLLIN COUNTY and FOX NEWS- (WBAP/KLIF) Collin County Sheriff’s Department reports 10-year old Sophie Long is in protective custody in a nation not named and expected to be returned soon to North Texas; to the care of her mother. The Department advises her father, Michael Long, is held on a felony warrant for interference with child custody.
The case came to light as a custody dispute, with the father alleging he believed Sophie had been the victim of sex abuse, and allegedly resisting return of the child to her mother in Collin County. Michael Long is believed to have launched allegations of sex abuse on a Go Fund Me account which reportedly raised $200,000 before it was shut down. The pair were last seen in Seguin, South Texas, in July of 2021.
The Routzon Law Firm of Keller, Texas was brought in with an amicus attorney stating, “Experts believe that Michael Long’s actions form a textbook example of ‘parental alienation’ – a type of child abuse in which he has consistently used psychological manipulation to turn the children against the other parent,” the firm said in a statement at the time.
The amicus attorney also found “deep concerns” over “the children’s immediate emotional health and safety while in their father’s care” and accused him of monetizing the custody battle for his own profit at his kids’ expense.”
Collin County Sheriff Department offers few other details, but indicates more may be made public once the girl is returned to North Texas.
