Critics Warn Power Grid Could Go Down

(WBAP/KLIF) — Some believe Texas’ move to bolster protections against winter power outages doesn’t go far enough.

Regulators of the Texas oil and gas industry are moving to make operators better prepared for cold weather, following February’s deadly freeze. However, new rules passed, Tuesday, won’t come in time for winter as the nation’s power grid monitor warns the state is still at risk of blackouts.

They say Texas’ response to improve conditions after the winter storm that killed hundreds of people has been insufficient. Governor Greg Abbott is guaranteeing the lights will stay on this winter, however, power grid monitors are warning the state is still at risk of blackouts.
