(WBAP/KLIF) — The TCU Horned Frogs have a new football coach. Former SMU head coach Sonny Dykes has been tapped to replace long-time TCU coach Gary Patterson on the gridiron.
Dykes was flown into Amon Carter stadium by helicopter to be introduced to hundreds of fans, Monday night, and expressed his admiration for the program.
Dyches comes to tcu after four seasons at SMU where he compiled a record of 25-9 over the past three seasons. He is the son of former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes.
Before SMU, Dykes had head coaching stints at Louisiana Tech and California. According to WFAA, he also served as an offensive analyst for TCU in 2017.
