Texas Redistricting Map Dices Up Parts of Denton County Into the Panhandle

Denton County, TX (WBAP/KLIF) The draft redistricting proposal drawn by state Republicans slices up the democratic stronghold of Denton to include parts of Amarillo, the most conservative district in Texas.

We are simply being hijacked,” is how the Denton County Democratic Party Chair described it.
Delia Parker-Mims told the Dallas Morning News,“We should be able to have intelligent debates about what’s best for us as a society; not slicing it up so you don’t get a seat at the table and your mouth is covered.”

If approved, Denton and Amarillo, some 400 miles away would share the same U.S. House district that gave former President Trump and congressional Republicans a 60% edge in 2020. It would mean that Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Gainesville and parts of Denton would have the same representative in Congress.

Since the last Census, Denton’s population has grown by 23%, younger and more racially diverse.
